Dr A. on Fox 10 Morning Show – Feb 21, 2016

Did you know these family dental care facts?

We love family dental care Q&A! In honor of National Children’s Dental Health Month, Fox KSAZ-Phoenix hosts Ty Brennan and Anita Roman sit down for a live Q and A with Dr. A. Viewers get their burning questions answered about common dental myths and other topics.

How to pull out a child’s baby teeth is a big question on the minds of many parents. Dr. A. explains that they usually fall out on their own, but provides tips on how to help things along if the need arises.

Another viewer is struggling with tooth decay due to a health problem that keeps the body in malnutrition mode. They ask what types of enamel repair toothpastes or mouthwashes on the market might help. Dr. A. reassures them that there are many products available, both prescription and over-the-counter. She goes over some of the most common active ingredients used for this purpose and how they help to protect and strengthen enamel from decay and acid attacks.

Heart conditions are fairly common, and sometimes require that changes be made to dental treatment protocols. A viewer explains their son has Tetralogy of Fallot and wonders how to ensure a dentist has the right kind of experience to treat him. They ask what questions they should present to the dentist when calling to set up an appointment, to make sure he or she has worked with other kids who have coronary heart disease.

Dr. A. explains the importance of being completely open and transparent about your child’s medical history whenever you see a medical professional, because there are ways of adjusting treatment to fit your child’s situation. She cautions against making the mistake of assuming your dentist doesn’t need to know everything – sometimes there are aspects of the medical history that can affect dental care in ways you may not have anticipated. She also discusses one way treatment can be customized in such cases to prevent complications.
